在搭檔過世後，民謠歌手 Llewyn Davis 的單人專輯始終毫無起色。失去穩定收入的他，只能輾轉寄居在熟人家中。一天，他從朋友 Gorfein 夫婦家出門時，意外放走了他們的貓。於是，在尋貓與音樂夢邊緣的掙扎中，Llewyn 在各種沙發上漂泊：索要墮胎費的偷情對象、初次見面的同事、路邊攔的轎車......在這荒誕與黑色幽默之下，死去搭檔的陰霾仍籠罩著他......
